Bart Bryant: Tiger Woods
built 178 days ago
The biggest difference in Bryant, besides knowing he's not heading back to Q-School anytime soon, is that he's playing with confidence now. He knows that if he plays well he can stay with these guys. His Tour Championship was significant because he finished ahead of Woods, Singh, Love III, and Goosen. He knows he can play against the best. His recent success should settle Bryant and allow him to focus on enjoying himself and taking it one swing at a time.

With his unlikely birdie, Bryant completed a four-under-par 66 for a 14-under total of 196. “I’m a little surprised,” Bryant admitted. “But I’m sure I’m a surprise in a lot of people’s minds that I’m leading at this point.” Defending champion Retief Goosen of South Africa carded a 69 for sole possession of second place on 199. Tiger Woods was a further stroke back after a 67 for 200.
While Woods and Goosen can pump drives of more than 300 yards, Bryant often drives 270 to 280 yards in the fairway. Woods and Goosen are broad-shouldered, flat-bellied major champions. Bryant, with a slight paunch, has had torn tendons in each of his elbows and a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder.

Two huge wins, two huge paychecks, and Bart found himself in the top ten on the season's money list with more than $3 million in earnings. What a season—and what did Bart's friends want to talk about? Tiger Woods.
If Woods had any hope of applying late pressure to Bryant it was lost at the par four 16th when he drove it right and into a hazard and eventually took double bogey. He struggled to the line and finished six shots behind.

Tiger Woods, a three-time Memorial winner, matched Bryant's 68 to move into a tie for third at 12-under-par 276. He was joined there by Bo Van Pelt and Jeff Sluman, who held at least a share of the lead after each of the first three rounds at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
