In March 2006, PBS aired Barry Manilow: Music and Passion, a Hilton concert taped exclusively for the network's fundraising drive. Manilow was nominated for two Emmys, winning for "Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program". A sequel album to his best-selling fifties tribute album, The Greatest Songs of the Sixties was released on October 31, 2006 including songs such as "And I Love Her" and "Can't Help Falling in Love". It nearly repeated the success of its predecessor, debuting at #2 in the Billboard 200.
Fan of show tunes, jazz - In spite of their popularity, those songs weren't among Manilow's favorite music. He admits his career has been filled with a series of personal contradictions. He's always been a somewhat reluctant performer. And he's never been a big fan of pop music, preferring instead show tunes by Broadway composer Oscar Hammerstein II and jazz numbers by Cole Porter. Yet his worldwide commercial success has been as a performer and composer of catchy pop songs "with four chords and kindergarten lyrics."

Manilow wasn't surprised thatan album featuring songs from the '50s outperformed current hip-hop, pop and rock offerings. "I think the public is starving for a good melody and a good lyric," Manilow said.

"Music & Passion has grown over the last few years into a major show," Manilow said. "But over the next six months we want to bring in even more new elements and focus more on the hit songs that audiences seem to love."
