Barry Manilow is a well-known American songwriter/singer, composer, and music producer. He was born Barry Alan Pincus in Brooklyn, New York on June 17, 1943 to Edna and Harold Pincus. Singer Barry Manilow is at his Palm Springs home in a wheelchair following hip surgery, but his publicist says he should be walking by the end of the week. Manilow underwent arthroscopic surgery on both hips Monday at an undisclosed Southern California hospital, just hours after snagging the Emmy award for outstanding individual performance in a variety or music program. The 60-year-old singer even took the statuette into the operating room with him. His publicist says Manilow is "still on a high from winning" the award and is doing great. Manilow is expected to undergo about six weeks of physical therapy. Following his recuperation, he plans to return to his Las Vegas concert schedule.

Barry Manilow After more than 30 years, Barry Manilow said goodbye to the road with a once-in-a-lifetime 2004 concert. Capturing the final performance of his Farewell Tour at The Pond in Anaheim, the two-DVD set First & Farewell features more than 90 minutes of performance. Also included is never-before-seen footage of Manilow's first rehearsal at Carroll's Studio in New York City, where he prepared for his very first tour in 1974. It marks the first time the singer was recorded on videotape. Bonus footage includes performances from Manilow's One Night Live! concert in Vegas and his One Night Live!

Sure, Barry Manilow made it through the rain, writes the songs, and can't smile without you. Know what else? Despite just having arthroscopic surgery on both hips, the 60-year-old singer-arranger is in the midst of one of his best years ever. That's saying something, what with Manilow ranked as the top adult-contemporary chart artist of all time, with 25 top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1975 and 1983. On Saturday night, he will play the sold-out Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.

Barry Manilow may be the only singer ever in the history of show business who never wanted to be a performer. Ironically, it is Manilow's great skill as a stage performer in concert that has kept his long career going long after radio has stopped playing many of his hit songs. The two-disc set is a celebration of Manilow's first and last tour on the road.
