The funniest moment of Barry Manilow's show Friday night at the Merriweather Post Pavilion came at the beginning of "Some Kind of Friend," wherein Manilow sang about dreaming he led a rock 'n' roll band. Of course, Manilow's concept of rock was an impossibly fluffy confection, the sort of thing designed to make Lionel Richie seem daring by comparison.

By 1967, Manilow was the musical director for the WCBS-TV series Callback. He next conducted and arranged for Ed Sullivan's production company, arranging a new theme for The Late Show, while still writing, producing and singing his radio and television jingles. At the same time, he and Jeanne Lucas performed as a duo for a two-season run at New York's Upstairs at the Downstairs club.[13]

On October 14, Manilow will play Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall, followed by an October 21 concert at Chicago's Allstate Arena. Also on October 21, he will perform on QVC and discuss the album. "I've been out there for several years," he says. "I'm amazed that people are still interested in buying my albums and coming to my live shows."

On May 13, 1989 Manilow was rushed to Lenox Hill Hospital during intermission at Broadway's Gershwin Theater cancelling the second half of his show. His agent Susan Dubow said he was "feeling fine" after being forced from the Broadway stage because of an adverse reaction to medication prescribed for a stomach ailment. Dubow ... added that Manilow was ready to return to the stage to complete the run of his concert show, which was then extended one week to June 3.[50]

Mr. Manilow notes he won't be doing spins on stage for a while. At his Atlantic City show, he walked down a stairway during his big finale, "Copacabana." "Give me a month, and I'll be running down that stairway," he says.

This is a ridiculous reason not to appear and basically just shows that Manilow is an idea bigot. Just because somebody disagrees with you on politics does not make them a) dangerous, b) a bad person, or c) somebody you should instantly hate.
