Edna Manilow, the mother of Barry Manilow, explained how her son got a scar on his right cheek by his nose: "How did you notice that? The scar on his cheek here? Well, when he was little, he had a little girlfriend, Elizabeth, and she pushed him and he fell and I didn't pay too much attention to it and then it started infecting — you know, it got an infection, and I had to take him to the hospital and it healed. But it stayed, obviously, you all noticed it. He puts on make-up."[40]

Regarding his enduring 30-year career, Manilow says, "I'm fortunate that people are still interested in what I have to say. The pink lights came about because the Mayor had struck up a correspondence with some people in the UK following the worldwide coverage of the Manilow Method. Hastings Council, coincidentally not far from England's Brighton, had considered pink lights but not gone through with it.
