Actor Barry Corbin (Northern Exposure) will be showing up in four episodes of The Closer, which begins its 3rd season on TNT on June 18th. He will portray Clay Johnson, the charming but tough father of Kyra Sedgwick's character Brenda Leigh Johnson. Also returning will be Frances Sternhagen as Brenda's mother.

Barry Corbin is a character actor in both television and film and is known for portraying larger-than-life figures. He gained fame with his portrayal of an astronaut turned entrepreneur, Maurice Minnifield, in the CBS televisions show Northern Exposure and can currently be seen on One Tree Hill as Coach Whitey Durham. Regretfully, Barry Corbin will not be able to perform with Andy during his Christmas show at the Cactus Theatre in Lubbock this Friday and Saturday night because of a last minute scheduling conflict. Barry wishes he could be there and hopes you all have a Merry Christmas. He does owe Andy a favor though.

Actor Barry Corbin may be best remembered for portraying Maurice Minnifield, the blustery but good-hearted ex-astronaut and entrepreneurial owner of Cicely, Alaska, in the popular TV show Northern Exposure (1990-95). Prior to that, he worked steadily on stage, screen and television since the mid '70s. With his stocky build and big voice, the Texas native is noted for his portrayals of policemen, soldiers, and father figures. He received formal training in theater at Texas Tech, and, after spending two years in the Marines, Corbin returned home and began acting in regional theater. He later went to New York where he worked on and off Broadway. He moved to L.A.

Leonard Barrie "Barry" Corbin was born in Lamesa, Texas on October 16, 1940. At a young age, he was very interested in performing, and even told his parents that he wanted to become an actor. He enjoyed drawing cartoons and playing music with his guitar and piano. At the age of 10, he was mesmerized by the magic of film, as he liked watching "B" movie Westerns. He ... saw Walter Brennan and Ben Johnson as his heroes, and aspired to be like them when he grew up. His favorite series to watch was Sunset Carson, which further inspired him to become an actor.
