During her extensive film career, Barbra Streisand has taken on many roles both in front of and behind the camera. She served as a producer on A Star Is Born (1976) as well as co-starring with Kris Kristofferson. She even wrote some of the music for the film and won an Academy Award for “Evergreen” along with Paul Williams for Best Original Song. With these performances Streisand became respected and sought after for work in film and television, while still being the number one female singer throughout the '60s and '70s. Her first starring film role was a 1968 adaptation of Funny Girl, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. From there she went on to do more comedies, musicals and dramas. Her directorial debut came in 1983 with the film Yentl, winning the Golden Globe for Best Director and Best Picture.
