Barbara Stanwyck: Men

Barbara Stanwyck stars as the western legend in Wild Bill Hickock's Wild West Show. The story takes great literary license in the telling, but holds fast to a few truths, including the love between Annie and her mentor Preston Foster. Annie's bits of refinement mixed with her frontier woman roughness as portrayed in the film are not as out of character as one might think. Annie, whose real name was Phoebe Ann Mosey, was the daughter of Quakers who ran a tavern in western Ohio until it burned down. They were very poor and Annie resided in the county poor farm for part of her childhood. Annie did indeed began hunting to support her family.
Dramatic early Frank Capra soaper stars Barbara Stanwyck as a spinster who falls in love with a married district attorney (Adolphe Menjou), has his child, but can never truly be with him. Also starring Ralph Bellamy and Dorothy Peterson. Excellent quality.

[Barbara Stanwyck's somewhat ambiguous sexual preferences are discussed. She married men and had mostly male lovers, but was open to relationships with females, and became something of an icon for lesbians, due more to her starkly independent on-screen persona than to any of her actual off-screen activities.]
