Barbara Stanwyck married Robert Taylor in 1939 and initially the couple seemed to enjoy their high-profile life together. But Taylor’s repeated infidelity caused the marriage to fall apart. The later years of her life were spent in active charity which ... remained away from the limelight. In 1973 she was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. As well as being a versatile actress Stanwyck ... had a reputation as being one of the nicest people ever to grace Hollywood. Frank Capra said she was "destined to be beloved by all directors, actors, crews and extras. In a Hollywood popularity contest she would win first prize hands down." She received an Academy Honorary Award "for superlative creativity and unique contribution to the art of screen acting" in 1982.

One of the stronger films of the collection, Annie Oakley sees George Stevens direct, Preston Foster as Toby Walker and Barbara Stanwyck as the title sharpshooter. Years before Irving Berlin's hit Broadway musical, Stanwyck shaped the historical figure into a memorable bit of cinema. Despite being largely inaccurate to the real-life Oakley, this western comedy is still remarkably entertaining and carries a carefree lightheartedness as only ever-present in such silver screen fun. A 1935 vintage short and a cartoon accompany the feature.
