Bar Girls is a lesbian-themed romantic comedy film written by Lauran Hoffman, adapted by Hoffman from her stage play of the same name for the screen in 1994. Starring Nancy Allison Wolfe, Liza D'Agostino, Camila Griggs and Michael Harris and directed by Marita Giovanni, the play and film follow the lives of several women who socialize at a local lesbian bar. Bar Girls was part of a wave of LGBT-themed films that were released in the early 1990s.
For those of you who may have missed it, Mid Day had carried a similar story on 18 August, 2005 about dance bar girls who have taken to stripping at private parties. In that story, Mid Day had ... published a few fuzzy photographs of topless girls dancing. The headline said: So much for morality, Mr Patil. The story was written by Nishant A Bhuse. "As the 45-minute dance began, notes started to litter the floor like confetti. The women proceeded to undress, walking seductively up to one gleeful guest after another and sitting in their laps," said the story.
Candy Bar Brighton Girls The Candy Bar brand could easily be the most prolific lesbian bar in the world. Last year, the UK’s original fulltime Girls Bar, not only celebrated creating a vibrant social Scene for women for over decade but ... having undoubtedly transformed the world of lesbian social opportunity during that time. In its conception, back in 1996, Candy Bars flagship venue in Soho London boldly placed itself in the epicentre of the gay community and over the years owner Kim Lucas and her dedicated team have produced countless other groundbreaking events such as Summer Rites, Bootylicious, Soho Pride and also opened its sister venue, Candy Bar Brighton, six years ago, which is also located in the heart of the cities gay village.

Bar Girls suffers from a script that goes in too many directions to be compelling. It is never as funny as it wants to be, nor, apparently, as it thinks it is: The women are constantly wisecracking, but most of the humor falls flat.
The media is replete with reports that the crackdown on dance bars in Maharashtra has led to minor girls being trafficked into Delhi. By all accounts, the bar ‘girls’ in Maharashtra are in fact adult women. In fact, last year the Bhartiya Bargirls Union, the first-ever trade union of bargirls, was formed. In August, they held a demonstration culminating in Mumbai’s Azad Maidan demanding better working conditions and had posters like “Bar bala bhi veer bala hai” (the bar girl is ... a brave girl). They do not appear to have been “trafficked” through coercion into the profession. Nor do they look too keen to be “rehabilitated” into lowly-paid sewing work.
