The band members were all from a family living in Gweedore in the county of Donegal (N. Ireland). Clannad is an abbreviation of "Clann as Dobhar", which means "the family from Gweedore".

A great old band from Engurland called The Housemartins. Although no longer together, they recorded some great popstuff, albeit a bit odd. Some of the band members have continued on as The Beautiful South, and are still recording some pretty nonsensical stuff.

Kansas — Named after the state all the band members are from, on the suggestion of the band's guitarist Kerry Livgren. The nationally known band was actually the third incarnation of Kansas, with a mixing of the members of White Clover and the previous Kansas line-up.
