The Baltimore Orioles are considered to be the child of the St. Louis Browns. The reason was that the team originally was in St. Louis but moved to Baltimore in 1954 after overstaying their welcome in St. Louis. The attendance in St. Louis had been dropping like a rock for years and change seemed to be the only solution at the time. Fortunately for Baltimore Oriole fans, the child has been way more successful than the parent ever was. The Baltimore Orioles were considered to be the most successful Major League Baseball team from the middle 1960s until the middle 1980s.

The Orioles belong to the Eastern Division of the American League and are based in Baltimore , Maryland . The Baltimore Orioles derived its nickname from the Orioles that is the state bird of Maryland . The Orioles have performed remarkably good baseball since its establishment. The team has always been blessed with the big-named ballplayers that have always been a part of the team. This season Orioles are not in favor making changes to the roster. Expectations are not much high from the team as they couldn't record a winning record in eight straight seasons. It is believed that the team will finish at fourth or fifth place but the club has their own set of expectations.

The Baltimore Orioles remained a contender for the American League pennant during the first half of the 1980s. They won their third World Series crown in 1983 with all stars like Eddie Murray, Cal Ripken and Scott McGregor. The Orioles defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4 games to 1 for the last championship. Since that last championship, the Orioles have seen good and bad times. They opened their new stadium, Oriole Park, in 1992 and made their first playoff appearance since the 1983 World Series in 1996. The Orioles won their last division title in 1997 under manager Davey Johnson but have not finished higher than third in the division since then.

The current rooster of the Baltimore Orioles has changed over the past months as some new transactions have been made. On June 8, 2007, the team purchased the contract of catcher Alberto Castillo from Triple-A Norfolk. On May 14, outfielder Tike Redman was signed to a Minor League contract. A day earlier, right-handed pitcher Jon Leicester was placed on the 15-day disabled list; and right-handed pitcher Scott Williamson was activated from this list. Right-handed pitcher Sean Tracey was sent outright to Triple-A Norfolk. In the early May, the Baltimore Orioles selected right-handed pitcher Jon Leicester from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned left-handed pitcher Kurt Birkins there.
