Baja 1000 is an off-road race conducted on Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula. This race is classified into two types, a point to point race and a loop race. The point to point race is all about reaching from one point or one location to another. This race initially was held between Ensenada and La Pez. Later on the points in between have been increased to make the race more adventurous. Sometimes starts in Tijuana and at times from Mexicali.

The SCORE Baja 1000 is the most prestigious off-road race in the world. This year's SCORE Baja 1000 marks the 40th anniversary of the famed race. The race will begin Tuesday morning in the port town of Ensenada, Mexico. Tens of Thousands of spectators will line the start to watch the racers go off the line, through the wash, over the jumps, and rocket out through the streets of Ensenada. This year’s course features a grueling 1,296-mile battle down Mexico’s untamed Baja California peninsula starting in Ensenada, Baja California and finishing in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California.

The vehicles participating in Baja 1000 varies from a motorcycle to stock 4-wheel vehicles such as cars, trucks, ATVs and dune buggies. The motorcycles are seen to be the overall winners. Most of the race teams consist of factory supported groups which build custom fabricated vehicles. They ... provide chase vehicles via helicopter. Though they have all stock vehicles but have no chase vehicle. Some of such stock vehicles company is Volkswagen Type One Beetles providing Baja Bugs.

The route for the Baja 1000 road race that begins next week in Ensenada, Baja, Mexico. One team, from San Jose, Calif., plans to run the 1,300 mile route in a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle loaded up with modern communications equipment.
