Tom Evans of Badfinger committed suicide on November 23rd, 1983, not long after a heated telephone argument with bandmate, Joey Molland. Fellow group member, Pete Ham... hanged himself, back in 1975. Their last album had been Say No More, from 1981. Next to Roy Orbison, Badfinger was the unluckiest act in the business.

With their follow-up, No Dice, Badfinger's image as poor mans Beatles began to evaporate, due to the new sophistication found in the writing skills of all the band members. George Harrison and Todd Rundgren took turns producing their third album, Straight Up, which contained two more international hits, Baby Blue and Day After Day.
Badfinger Badfinger was a rock & roll band formed in Swansea, Wales in 1965. During the early 1970s the band was touted as the heir apparent to The Beatles but Badfinger's meteoric rise and tragic demise became a cautionary tale for the rock music industry. The personal tragedies of two if its members aside, Badfinger earned a place as one of the most fondly remembered bands of the era.

Badfinger Over the next few years, the remaining members of Badfinger tried to control their increasingly complex legal and financial problems. In 1978 Tom Evans and Joey Molland kickstarted the band again, with ex-Yes keyboard player Tony Kaye and former Stealers Wheel drummer Peter Clarke, though without Mike Gibbins. In 1979 they released the album Airwaves, which was followed by a second album, Say No More, in 1981.

In November 1973, the band released Ass - a good album but one that was a little rough around the edges - only months later, Badfinger released their self-titled debut album for Warner's. The album was an improvement over Ass, but it still suffered from the hasty release. Determined to get it right, Badfinger went into the studio with Chris Thomas and produced some of their very best music in Wish You Were Here.
Badfinger began their career as "The Iveys". In addition to Ham, another member of the band later commited suicide (might have been Evans). Badfinger wrote and originally recorded "Without You" which Harry Nilsson took to Number 1 in 1972.
