Bad Company: Mick Ralphs
built 646 days ago
Rodgers's voice is Bad Company's virtuoso instrument; he's one of the most impressive rock singers of the decade. He shares with Rod Stewart a vocal delivery that derives its expresiveness from a shifting emphasis on its jagged edge and its sweet, delicate center. Although Rodger's expressive abilities match Stewart's, his taste in material as yet does not. He's always depended on his own writing or that supplied by other members of his bands for practically every bit of material he performs, a decision that has often forced him to make more out of the songs he sings than is actually there (lack of consistently strong material may well have prevented Free from making it in America). With Bad Company, Rodgers persists in his insistence on group-produced songs, but fortunately Mick Ralphs has as deft a touch with a rock & roll song as he does with a guitar line. His three songs on the album (he collaborated on two others with Rodgers) are highlights.
BAD COMPANY ruled the airwaves and the concert stages as the ?70s wore on, becoming one of the most sought-after live acts in the business. By their second US Tour in 1975, they were selling out all performances. The second album STRAIGHT SHOOTER remained in the Top Five for over a month and produced another Top 10 single, FEEL LIKE MAKIN LOVE. In 1976, the third Album RUN WITH THE PACK was certified Gold only two weeks after the release and remained on the charts for nine months. Ralphs' LIVE FOR THE MUSIC from that album became a statement of purpose for BAD COMPANY.

In 1973 Rodgers formed Bad Company with guitarist Mick Ralphs. They wrote, produced and recorded six multi-platinum albums in five years, including such global hits as "Feel Like Makin' Love," "Can't Get Enough," "Rock & Roll Fantasy," "Shooting Star" and "Bad Company." Point of interest, Rodgers ... played guitar and piano on several of these recordings. In the U.S., "10 From 6" still generates sales of 1,000,000 copies annually -- 20 years after its release.
Mick recorded an album but the record company really wanted to get Bad Company back together. Mick finally got a call from DAVID GILMOUR, who he's real good friend with and went out on the road with him.
