Backyard Baseball is a highly acclaimed series of kid's video games for the Game Boy Advance, PlayStation 2, GameCube and the PC. Currently all the games in the series have been developed by Humongous Entertainment and published by Atari. It is one of six Backyard Sports games. The original game consisted of 30 neighborhood kids. But over the years, the idea of "Pro players as kids" became popular, and the original stats/look of the players changed. Managers can not create players, but they can choose from among a roster of characters to form
Part of the Humongous Sports series, Backyard Baseball 2001 is a customizable sports title featuring the Backyard Kids, as well a few smaller versions of Major League pros. Children can select from 30 Major League Baseball teams and compile their rosters any way they choose. Kid versions of Randy Johnson, Ivan Rodriguez, Mo Vaughn, and Cal Ripken, Jr. are just a few of the choices available to comprise a team. Players are then given the option to play a single game or start a series.

Backyard Baseball 07 blends simplicity with velocity. Whether you're playing a full-length game or one that's been cut, the experience is not one of time and patience – it's one of quick thinking and on-the-fly strategizing. Players are only limited by the speed at which they choose to move. Most animations are short, and any that go beyond a couple of seconds (ex: scoring a homerun triggers a replay) can be skipped by pressing the X button.
In Backyard Baseball 2003, if you hit the spacebar and click on options, you can make it so that commentary appears written at the top of the screen. Sunny Day is pink, Vinnie the Gooch is green, and a player is yellow.
