Backstreet Boys is the self-titled international début album from the pop group Backstreet Boys. The album was released around Europe, Asia, Canada and in a few other markets. It was a fair success and contains a number of the band's most memorable singles. All of those singles were later released on the second self-titled debut in the United States in 1997, which compiled songs from this album, and the band's second international release, Backstreet's Back.

Backstreet Boys were, in many ways, a contradictory band. Comprised entirely of white, middle-class Americans, the group sang a hybrid of new jack balladry, hip-hop, RB, and dance club pop that originally found its greatest success in Canada and Europe, with their 1996 debut album charting in the Top Ten in nearly every country on the continent; ironically, success in their native land did not follow until nearly two years later.

Among the heartthrob boy bands that sprang up like mushrooms in dark cellars in the 1990s, the Backstreet Boys displayed perhaps the most talent and certainly the best staying power. After taking a break from nonstop touring and recording early in the decade, the Backstreet Boys returned in 2004 and regained their status and their ticket-selling abilities. Now they're coming back with a new album and they're teaming up with Latin heartthrob Ricky Martin to tour in October 2007.
