Babysitter: Child

It's a good idea to keep a basic kit handy that the babysitter can find easily. Include a thermometer, bandaids, and pain reliever along with any medications the child must take while the babysitter is there. Write the instructions and dosages for each child's medication and put it in the kit. Show the medications to the babysitter, and verbally instruct her on giving any medication. Discuss any of your child's allergies and how to handle an allergy reaction. Tell the babysitter to call you if the child has fever and before she gives any medications that you have not discussed.

The recommendations of people you know and trust are your best bet for finding a reliable and capable babysitter. If you're new to the area and don't know how to go about finding a sitter, ask your neighbors or coworkers for recommendations, inquire at your place of worship, or askyour child's doctor or nurse practitioner for suggestions. If your child is already enrolled in a daycare or after-school care program, staff members who are already familiar with your child may be willing to either babysit or provide sitter recommendations.

Agency fees for putting you in touch with a babysitter range from a yearly subscription to one-off fees. Check with a reliable, local babysitting agency (details available on bestbear.co.uk childcare search) for their prices.

Does your babysitter need specific training or skills to watch your child(ren)? If your child has special needs that require very specific medical treatments, if your child is sick, or if you require first aid/CPR training or a babysitter to know how to give asthma treatments, for example, the rate may be more.

Let your babysitter know your expectations before you leave your home. If you'd prefer that the sitter not leave the house with your child, make that clear. If the phone and visitors are off limits, discuss those restrictions.
