- Madonna -- Guy Ritchie
Madonna was good friends with actress/Oscar winner Gwyneth Paltrow. Their friendship began in late 1999 and ended in 2003. Gwyneth was the Maid of Honor at Madonna's wedding to Guy Ritchie. (edit) - Madonna (Entertainer) -- Guy Ritchie
Madonna used a mixture of talent, pulchritude and relentless self-promotion to become one of the most famous recording artists of the 20th century. She released her self-titled first album in 1983 in the guise of a streetwise pop ragamuffin, and over time she kept one step ahead of the game by jumping from persona to persona: dance club queen, balladeer, cowgirl, channeler of the Mysterious East. Her other albums have included Like a Virgin (1984), Ray of Light (1998, Music (2000), American Life (2003) and Confessions on a Dance Floor (2005). She has ... acted in over a dozen movies, including Dick Tracy (1990, with Warren Beatty) and A League of Their Own (1992, with Rosie O'Donnell). No stranger to controversy, Madonna has long been a favorite of the tabloids on topics ranging from her racy videos and TV appearances to her sometimes-mystical religious beliefs to her marriages to actor Sean Penn (1985-89) and filmmaker Guy Ritchie (2000-present). Her daughter Lourdes was born in October of 1996, fathered by Madonna's personal trainer, Carlos Leon. - Warner Brothers -- Warner Brothers Records
After getting into some trouble for its early marketing practices in the blogosphere, Warner Brothers Records is dipping its toes in the blog waters once again. The company will sponsor podcasts of the Eric Rice Show and provide exclusive audio content from one of its bands. - Guy Ritchie -- Director Guy Ritchie
Perhaps all the rumors that her marriage to director Guy Ritchie is on the rocks have contributed to her Madge-sty’s poor health. British newspaper, The People, reported this week that the rumors, more rampant in the UK than in the US, have helped to convince her to move stateside for a while. An insider told the paper, "[Madonna] feels like she is living in a goldfish bowl in Britain. She thinks an extended break will do them all the world of good and take the heat off for a while." The source insists that there is no chance that Madonna and Guy will be breaking up any time soon. "They argue like mad but it doesn't mean anything, - Judy Holliday
THERE WERE MANY authentic dumb blondes in the movies, but Judy Holliday wasn't one of them. The comedienne, who can be seen in a four-film retrospective at the Stanford Theater in Palo Alto Aug. 6-11, is possibly the brainiest of all actresses to put on the curls and negligee of the blonde clown. The yellow hair was supposedly her own, as was the fluffy name--a translation of her birth name, Judith Tuvic ("Tuvic" means "holiday" in Hebrew). When she died (early, at age 43, of cancer) the New York Times pointed out that Holliday had an IQ of 172. Holliday has a comic scene in 1950's Born Yesterday (Aug. 8-11) in which her character, Billie Dawn, tries to soak up some culture by listening to symphonies. - Madonna -- Madonna Live
No doubt, losing Madonna to Live Nation in what's quickly become regarded as a historic deal (worth a reported $120 million), was a huge blow to Warner Bros. Records, her home for the last 25 years. - Claudia Cardinale
Claudia Cardinale was born Claude Josephine Rose Cardin on April 15, 1938 in Tunis, Tunisia. Her parents were Italian immigrants to the country and encouraged her career in drama. Claudia was first noticed by Italian casting directors when she won a 1957 beauty contest in Tunis. - Jean-Paul Belmondo
Roberto La Rocca (Jean-Paul Belmondo) is an ex-gangster whose friend Xavier (Pierre Vaneck) has been unjustly thrown in prison. Indeed, local gang leader Villanova is the one who framed Xavier. La Rocca confronts the mobster and kills him. Later, while helping his mistress (Beatrice Altariba) to fight off an American gang of racketeers, Roberto is caught by the police and is put in the same prison with Xavier. Then the two volunteer to clear land mines left from the last war, hoping to receive a pardon and to buy a quiet farm. The same novel by José Giovanni was later filmed by the author himself as La Scoumoune, again starring Belmondo.
