Off screen, in San Diego, Babe is working as a waitress in a restaurant on a ship at the docks. She meets and marries rich boy J.R. Chandler after just three weeks of knowing him. Her story in the soap opera starts with their arrival in Pine Valley. J.R. reunites with his wealthy family and his stepfather, Tad Martin, announcing that he has a new girlfriend.

After his big win at the sheep herding contest in his first movie, Babe is confident he can help with more duties around the farm, and grow more profits for Universal Studios. However, his new confidence sets off a chain of events that leaves Farmer Hoggett (James Cromwell) incapacitated. Mrs. Hoggett (Magda Szubanski), faced with foreclosure of the farm, decides to earn some quick cash by taking Babe to an exhibition where he can show off his skills.

Arriving in New Orleans, Babe and Jamie set up the foundation for their new lives. On Christmas they gave each other the same gift, a promise to be the family that they left behind. But their bliss in New Orleans was not to be. One of JR's henchmen tracked them down. They were saved in the last minute be a surprise player, Liza Colby. She too was on the run from the Chandlers with her daughter Colby.

When it is found that Greg Madden has died due to being buried alive underground for weeks, Babe sticks by Josh and seeks to help him through this. This enrages J.R., causing more problems for their marriage. Due to the lack of communication, J.R.'s murder attempt on her, their increased fighting, the Greg Madden murder mystery looming over their heads, and the search for Kate (J.R.'s long-lost sister), J.R. and Babe begin shutting down on one another. This leads Babe to turn to Josh, confiding in him even more and spending more time with him.

The movie opens with a sad scene where Babe (voiced by Christine Cavanaugh) is born and the mother is taken away, to be killed. Babe is the only "babe" that cares that his mother is being taken away. Soon, some men take Babe to be sold for a Christmas dinner. Farmer Hoggett (James Cromwell) guesses the pig's weight and wins Babe. He takes it home, where the story is told from Babe's point of view. Babe meets several animals while still mourning for his mother.
