Aventura is a New York based Dominican-American music group formed in the year 1994 by a team of four boys from the Bronx in New York City. The founders of Aventura are the lead singers and composers Anthony 'Romeo' Santos and Henry Santos Meter; the guitarist and producer Lenny Santos; and the double bass player Max Santos. Syl Peterkin and Rony Joachim were former members of the Aventura group. The lead singer of Aventura, Anthony Santos was born on June 21, 1981, Lenny Santos was born on October 24, 1979, both in the Bronx. Henry Santos Jeter was born on September 15, 1979 at Moca, in the Dominican Republic and Max Santos was born in 1982 at South Bronx. They all were diehard music lovers by the time they were 15.

In 1983 Oxford Development, led by partners Donny Soffer and Eddie Lewis opened Aventura Mall with four anchors: J.C. Penney (relocated from an older, smaller location at The Mall at 163rd Street), Macy's (the first in Florida; in a three story structure with a tile roof), Sears, and Lord & Taylor. On board as an original investor in the project was legendary mall-developer Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. The mall was originally designed to accommodate a fifth anchor, and there was even a section of drywall in place where its mall entrance would be located.
