From Guide - Auto Assault is a massively multiplayer online game in which players will create role playing game style characters from one of three distinct races who specialize in vehicular assault. Each character race, humans, mutants and biomeks have an individualized mission campaign and battle for control of a future Post-Apocalyptic world. Through these missions you will be allowed to level up, gaining new abilities to help you in your objectives. This unique blend of vehicular combat and role-playing assures that everyone will make friends and enemies through the game's post-apocalyptic environment.

The third tier of money in Auto Assault is in the form of old world paper money, or scrip. One thousand clink or coin equals one scrip, and one thousand scrip equals one bar.

Where Auto Assault breaks down is in the area of imagination, which is a surprise given the interesting choice in theme. Repetitiveness is the game's biggest enemy, with the bleak world built for high-speed combat and little else to entice players to explore every dusty inch. Gangs continuously harass vehicles that drive into their zones, and after a few levels worth of blowing them into squishy chunks, you're ready to give them your keys. The trite, "fetch this, collect that, kill so-and-so" quests do little to inspire repeat trips, as the action decays into a monotonous grind for items to craft new equipment. Instead of blazing a trail into new territory, Auto Assault takes a promising idea and throws it on cruise control. ~ Scott Alan Marriott, All Game Guide

The biggest change that Auto Assault makes to the genre's typical formula is its combat. Rather than just press an attack button and watch the fun while firing off the occasional spell or special skill, Auto Assault makes you think more about your car's position while you're fighting. That's because your main methods of attack are a front-mounted weapon and a turret that rotates atop your vehicle. And you don't just hit an attack button and watch the shots fly back and forth. Instead, you actually hold down a fire button to start firing your weapons. The game draws a few arcs on the screen that represent the range of your weapons, and when you get an enemy in those arcs and hold down the fire button, the game starts rolling a ton of theoretical dice against your stats to determine if your shots miss or hit, and how much damage is done.
