Austin Powers - British spy from the sixties who was cryogenically frozen in case Dr. Evil ever returned. In 1997 Dr. Evil came back and Austin was unfrozen so that he could put a stop to his nemesis. Despite his bad teeth and sixties swinger lingo, Austin gets used to the '90's--though the sixties are still his bag, baby.

Austin is woken up to stop Dr. Evil but gets Vanessa Kensington, his ex-partner's daughter and goes to Vegas to look for Evil, but finds out there is no longer any free love in the 90's, or Swinging.

The character known as Austin Powers was born on November 12, 1939. In a 1958 flashback in Goldmember he is clearly in his late teens. His parents' holiday in Belgium during his infancy would have predated the German invasion on May 10, 1940. He is the son of Nigel Powers (played by Michael Caine), a respected Ministry of Defence agent, and the twin brother of Dougie Powers (though Austin only learns this in Goldmember), otherwise known as Doctor Evil. While attending boarding school, he was awarded the title of "International Man of Mystery" - much to the dismay of his brother, who believed himself to be more deserving. This would play a prominent role in their future relationship, having turned Dr. Evil against Austin.

[T]hose Republicans who disagree with her are most often described as "strongly conservative"--which in mediaspeak is secret code for evil, the way Dr. Evil pronounces it in the Austin Powers movies, as "eee-vil." Or, "out of the mainstream" which again is code for evil, or "ideologically conservative," which is like evil squared, since ideologues are people who might actually vote on principle.

The general theme of the films is that arch-villain Dr. Evil plots to extort large sums of money from governments or international bodies but is constantly thwarted by British super-spy Austin Powers. To incorporate cultural elements of the 1960s and 1970s all the films feature time travel as a plot device and deliberately overlook inconsistencies.
