Augusto Pinochet: Deaths
built 263 days ago
In Chile, thousands took to the streets to celebrate or mourn the death of former military ruler Augusto Pinochet. When one group of about a thousand attempted to reach the presidential palace, clashes broke out, and police fired tear gas and water cannon to control the crowds. He was given a military, not a state, funeral.
An appeals court has stripped former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet of legal immunity, clearing the way for him to stand trial for the murder of two victims of the “Caravan of Death” case. The ruling allows a judge to indict Pinochet for the crime and re-opens the case which had previously been closed. Pinochet continues to use ill-health to dodge trial.
