Auditions generally include a cold reading from the play, so determine ahead of time which roles interest you. The Little Theatre encourages non-traditional casting. All interested persons are urged to audition. Good Luck!

Arvada CenterHolding auditions for "Buddy * The Buddy Holly Story" March 10-11 at the Arvada Center, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd., Arvada. Equity auditions are 11 a.m.-noon March 10, open auditions are noon-3 p.m. March 10 and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. March 11. Need experienced performers with strong acting, singing and dancing abilities as well as the ability to play an instrument. Ethnic minorities and cultural varieties are encouraged to audition for all roles. Actors should prepare 16-32 bars of an uptempo pop rock and roll musical theater appropriate to the production. Those auditioning should know the complete song but may only be required to perform 16 bars.

For smaller roles in a large production, mass auditions are held at which many inexperienced or aspiring performers, most without agents, show up. These are popularly known as cattle calls, since the hopefuls are often kept together in one large room like a herd. The musical A Chorus Line begins with one of these. American Idol ... auditions its aspiring vocalists using this technique, since there are so many auditions.

Casting for The Theatre in the Park's Season 2008 will take place the week following the Call Back auditions. Cast members will be notified either by email or phone within 2 weeks following casting. If an auditioner does not accept a role or does not respond to the Production Team to accept a role, the role will be re-cast.

Actors sometimes seek out coaching for auditions, but primarily for large film/TV roles, or for admittance to an MFA program. Many believe it is worth the expense — if only for the boost in self-confidence. In last-minute emergencies, actors even resort to phone coaching, although that's not an ideal situation.

Due to time constraints, many of the roles will be cast directly from the primary auditions and a callback audition is not required. Once all the shows have been cast, the cast lists will be posted on The Theatre in the Park's website.
