An all-new 2009 Audi A4 goes on sale this spring. Revealed at the Frankfurt Auto Show, Audi's volume model looks similar to the successful 2005-2008 models it will replace. However, it is a totally new structure packed with new engineering.

Audi continues to expand its successful A4 and A5 model lines. The new entry-level units add to the range of available engines. The 1.8 TFSI engine is available for the Audi A4, where it generates 88 k (120 hp) in combination with a manual transmission, and for the A5, where it develops 125 kW (170 hp) in combination with the continuously variable multitronic transmission. read

Audi spans a very wide array of uses-and prices-with its 2007 A4 family. The A4 can range from an affordable, economical four-cylinder sport sedan or wagon to the sunny-day Cabriolet model, all the way up to performance-oriented S4 models. The availability of quattro all-wheel drive with any of the body styles and with any of the engines can turn each of these variants into a safe all-weather vehicle, and the new Cabriolet model will likely rank as one of the safest convertibles.

Inside, the A4 retains its cockpit-like layout in front, with instrument panel forms that wrap around the driver, along with a wide center console with the controller for Audi's MMI (Multi-media Interface), which will be offered across the line. All include a 6.5-inch in-dash screen and what's called MMI Basic; top models include the Audi Music Interface and a digital TV tuner. A Bang & Olufsen sound system with ten channels, 505 watts, and 14 speakers is at the top of the range. Several other large-car luxury features will be offered, including a rearview-camera parking system, lane monitoring system, and 'side assist' radar blind-spot warning system. Radar-assisted adaptive cruise control with braking guard, an available feature set that until now has been absent from cars in this size and price class, will ... be optional on the A4.
