Atkins has been the cover boy of innumerable teen magazines and has appeared in several television commercials representing big brand names such as Coke and Adidas, all of which capitalized on Atkins' youth and appearance. He appeared on the cover of the September 1983 Playgirl magazine, and posed nude for a pictorial. He posed nude for the magazine again in December of the same year.

By June 1875, Atkins had returned to pile driving. He was hired to build an addition to the Mill Company’s wharf in Tacoma, Washington. Returning to Seattle by way of the Black River, with his pile driver, he built two wharves on Lake Washington for the Seattle Coal and Transportation Company. He then constructed a new wharf for that company on the Seattle harbor, with coal bunkers capable of holding 8,000 tons each.

After a weekend incident, the mother of CB Avery Atkins’ child accused him of false imprisonment and misdemeanor battery, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Atkins gave a sworn statement to police, in which he claimed he was defending himself against the woman. Atkins was neither arrested nor charged with a crime.

Atkins was born in Valdese, NC to Donald Bomann and Bitsy Nebauer. While in High school Atkins was a lifeguard and sailing instructor when a friend pressured him to audition for The Blue Lagoon. He won the role over 4,000 other actors. He had no previous interest or experience in acting.

In the climax, Atkins is confronted by the wronged husband, who forces him to strip butt naked while holding him at gunpoint. Chris displays amazing acting talent when he turns into a sniveling whiney baby as the jealous husband threatens him. He is then forced to get onto a sinking boat, and a very frightened Atkins obeys.
