Asteroids: Ships
built 179 days ago
The sound in Asteroids Deluxe is the same sound from Asteroids. The exploding asteroids and the buzz of the flying saucer still match the action perfectly. The whir of the cube ships is something new, and is one of the few improvements.

The objective of Asteroids is to score as many points as possible by destroying asteroids and flying saucers. The player controls a ship that can rotate left and right, fire shots straight forward, and thrust forward. As the ship moves, momentum is not conserved — the ship eventually comes to a stop again when not thrusting. The player can ... send their ship into hyperspace, causing it to disappear and reappear in a random location on the screen (with the risk of self-destructing or appearing on top of an asteroid).
In Asteroids Deluxe, the power of hyperspace is gone, replaced by a shield that protects you from asteroids and alien crafts, but the number of hits it can take is finite. Your ship still has the thrust capability, which can get you out of danger in a bind. Like its predecessor, the playing field in Asteroids Deluxe is swarming with asteroids. The large ones break into two medium-sized asteroids, and the medium ones break into two smaller ones. The smaller the rock, the faster it travels.

Each stage starts with a few asteroids drifting in random directions on the screen. Objects wrap around screen edges — for instance, an asteroid that drifts off the top edge of the screen reappears at the bottom and continues moving in the same direction. As the player shoots asteroids, they break into smaller asteroids that frequently move faster and are more difficult to hit. Smaller asteroids ... score higher points. Periodically, a flying saucer appears on one side of the screen and moves across to the other before disappearing again. The saucers are of two kinds: Large saucers fire in random directions, while small saucers aim at the player's ship.
Asteroids Deluxe Screenshot Gallery A single ship within a sea of brittle asteroids is your only hope to save mankind. Okay, so, unlike Mass Effect, all of the backstory here has to be in your head, but you get the picture. Your craft can float within a single plane in space, fire in 360 degrees and, well that is it. Shooting a meteor with the semi-automatic main (read: only) cannon breaks the matter up into smaller bits, which can ... be shot until the rock turns into dust. Running into any piece of an asteroid, no matter how small, is grounds for ship implosion. So is colliding with fire emanating from Asteroids’ pesky protagonist- the saucer-o-death. Magically, you can even die from yoru own cannon fire.
Use the keyboard controls described below to maneuver your ship, destroying as many asteroids as you can while avoiding collision with them. Also watch for the flying saucers armed with guided missles.
