A thread was created at WebmasterWorld forums named Has ASK Jeeves Updated its Index? but moderator martinibuster. Martinibuster says that he has noticed that Ask.com has been sending him traffic for a page that is about ten days old. That implies that Ask.com's index, which is normally slower to index new pages than Google, Yahoo or MSN, has become fresh with new pages. Martinibuster ... believes that Ask.com has "tweaked their algo" to provide higher quality results. For the few searches martinibuster placed, he said the quality is on par with Google and seems to be better than Yahoo results.

The Ask Jeeves Spider is not a deep traveling spider. It indexes all the visible text, plus provides support for ALT tag text in image statements, Meta Keywords and Description tags. Ask Jeeves does not read HTML comments.

Considering that the image search engine fields such a large percentage of total queries, it makes sense for Ask Jeeves to enhance it, said Gary Price, news editor of SearchEngineWatch.com. "That is why it is such a high priority," he said.

Ask Jeeves bought the Teoma database in September 2001 from which time it has been running the Teoma site in beta. It uses the Teoma database for it's search results and boasts that its search technology is just as good as Google's.
