Ashley is the man with whom Scarlett O'Hara is obsessed. Gentlemanly yet indecisive, he loves Melanie, his cousin and later his wife, but is tormented by an obsession with Scarlett. Unfortunately for him and Scarlett, his failure to deal with his true feelings for Scarlett ruins any chance she has for real happiness with the true love of her life (Rhett Butler). Ashley is a complicated character who is sympathetic to the cause of the North. He claims that he would have freed the slaves that worked on his plantation had the 'war never come'. He pleads, in vain, to his wife Melanie to move to the North after he came back from the War.

Ashley Capital purchased the vacant Recoton Corp. complex in Lake Mary. Recoton was a manufacturer of consumer electronics whose business was in the final phases of bankruptcy-court liquidation. The property, on Lake Emma Road, included a 570,000-SF distribution building and a 190,000-SF office and assembly-plant building. Within days of the closing, Ashley sold the smaller building, with a higher proportion of office, to a private equity investor. While Ashley’s plan was to convert the larger facility to multi-tenant use, a local manufacturing company decided to lease the entire building. CB Richard Ellis represented Ashley in the purchase and NAI Realvest was retained as the listing broker.

Ashley was born a stray in rural Florida. Last year, when she was about 3 months old, she wandered into a man's yard. The man became angry with the puppy for "trespassing on his lawn" and decided to "teach her a lesson." In full view of his neighbors, the man stomped on Ashley and tried to kill her. She did not die, but his kicks and blows fractured her legs and back, paralyzing the lower half of her body.
