Ashley Judd grew up in Kentucky. Her breakout role was in the widely acclaimed film Ruby in Paradise (1993). She has appeared in movies such as De Lovely, Bug, Come Early Morning, Heat, Double Jeopardy, and Kiss the Girls. Ashley Judd was born April, 1968 in Granada Hills, California. She majored in French at the University of Kentucky. She left university early to pursuit her acting career in Hollywood, for living she worked as an waitress at “The Ivy” restaurant and lived in a Malibu during this time.

The parents of Ashley Judd got divorced in 1972 and she accompanied her mother to Kentucky where she grew up in poverty. Her mother became famous as a country music singer in 1980s. Ashley Judd took her mother’s religion. She changed her school several times before she went to the college. During her school breaks, she tried modeling. She is a former student of Kappa Kappa Gamma at the University of Kentucky.

Aug. 14, 2001 (Lexington, Ky.) University of Kentucky alumna and actress Ashley Judd, who studied cultural anthropology at UK, has pledged $50,000 to the Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences. The gift will create and endow the Susan Abbott-Jamieson Dissertation Research Fund.

The studious Judd attended college at the University of Kentucky, where she majored in French and graduated Phi Beta Kappa. Judd considered joining the Peace Corps but was encouraged by Wynonna, among others, to try her luck in Hollywood. She moved to Los Angeles in 1990, where she began studying acting at the prestigious Playhouse West school. After two years of study, Judd won a small role in the disappointing Christian Slater vehicle Kuffs (1992), which was enough to earn her a Screen Actor’s Guild card.

Her half-sister Wynonna (spelled with two "n"'s to avoid confusion with actress Wynona Ryder) is known for her outspokenness and unbridled insanity. After her parents divorced, her mother took Ashley Judd back to Kentucky to live in poverty. There, they enjoyed life without running water, electricity, a telephone, toilet tissue, or "the other fine things in life," as Naomi called such "luxuries."
