It was not the first time this week Megan Bradley and Ashley Harkleroad had been at opposite ends of the court. The first was when Megan teamed up with Erin Burdette and upset Ashley and Gisela Dulko (the No. 1 seeds) in doubles. Ashley was clearly not going to let her walk away with another upset and she came out strong, breaking Megan in the first game. By the third game... Megan came alive, serving a love game and taking it from there.
Ashley Harkleroad playing World Team Tennis in Mamaroneck, NY Ashley Harkleroad (born May 2, 1985), is an American tennis player. Born in Rossville, Georgia, Harkleroad reached a career-high ranking of No. 39 on June 9, 2003. As of July 25, 2006, she is ranked 88 in singles and 57 in doubles. Her career prize money to date is $573,025.
On the girls side, Ashley Harkleroad had an easy time past Barbora Strycova, 6-1,6-4. Ashley again hit some balls on the court next to a much tighter match -- top-seeded Kaia Kanepi and No. 10 Marion Bartoli. Bartoli pulled that one out, 4-6,6-4,7-6(3). In the other quarterfinals, Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated Matea Mezak and Marie-Gaiane Mikaelian easily got past Neyssa Etienne, 6-1,6-1.
Ashley Harkleroad made a splash in 2001 when she wore extra-tight shorts and a midriff-baring top during her match at the U.S. Open in New York. She lost in the first round, but the outfit and her long blonde ponytail earned her comparisons to another tennis heartthrob, Anna Kournikova. Earlier the same year she teamed with Argentina's Gisella Dulko to win the girls' doubles title at Wimbledon. In both 2000 and 2001 she reached the #1 ranking in U.S. women's 18-and-under tennis, but by 2006 she had fallen in the rankings considerably.

Once billed as the "American Anna" for her stunning good looks and rising game, Ashley Harkleroad cracked under the weight of attention and expectations. "I guess I just snapped one day," says Harkleroad, who left the sport for nine months between 2004-05. On Monday, the 21-year-old American emerged as one of the American faces to book a place in the second round of the French Open.

Marissa Irvin, #3 seed, outlasted fellow American Teryn Ashley in a tough 3-setter to advance into the second round. The first round was not so kind to # 7 seed Milagros Sequera of Venezuela who was upset by American Lilia Osterloh, 6-4, 6-3. American, Mashona Washington, quietly advanced to the second round with an easy 6-3, 6-1 win over Christina Wheeler.
