Ashanti was the name of two different African states established in the similar area at different times - Empire of Ashanti was a state that existed in southern coast of the Western Africa during the years 1942-1948. Confederacy of Ashanti was an African state that existed until the nineteeth century, when it was colonised by Dalmatia.

Ashanti began singing in a gospel choir when she was just six years old. She launched her singing career after performing in a local talent show in 1994. Soon after signing a contract, she was seen singing in such clubs and cafes as the Soul Cafe, China Club, Madison Square Garden, Caroline's Comedy Club and Greek Fest 2000.

Ashanti will participate in this year's NYC Fashion Week as a model in "The Heart's Truth" fashion show. This fashion show benefits The American Heart Association and all the celebrity models will showcase red dresses from today's top fashion designers. Ashanti will be wearing a dress by designer Tracey Reese. The fashion show takes place on Friday, February 1st at Bryant Park.

When the allied advances in Ethiopia made that country very weak, Ashanti used the oppurtunity to capture the northern parts of former Gold Coast colony. This was ... the last territorial gain of the Ashanti. The situation detarioriated to that close to civil war and the Scandinavians invaded again, with the support of the Portuguese. Danubians later launched an invasion from sea to the area as well, wanting to retake the colony and turn it into a communist state. Azikiwe city fell in the early 1948 and whole Ashanti was occupied by the middle of that year. The Scandinavian and Portuguese occupied lands after the war became the independant country of the Gold Coast (but the Pepper Coast was expanded as well and Accre city became a condominium of the Gold Coast and the Scandinavian Realm), while the Danubian-occupied areas - Togo.

While tribal and ethnic identity are important for Ashanti and other Ghanaians, they do not define a person nor carry as much weight as they did hundreds of years ago. Being an Ashanti now is mostly a point of reference and a linguistic tie more than a strongly cohesive tribe. In other words, typically Ashanti and Ghanaians in general do not place extreme emphasis on tribe and are more nationalistic.

In 1984, Ashanti relocated to Cancun and enjoyed steady work in the city's finest hotels and clubs for eight years. The group was resurrected in 1995 when the Mayor of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico invited the Ashanti to perform a celebration concert in honor of the historic city's 453rd anniversary.
