In Ashanti, as in much of Ghana, the village is a social as well as an economic heart of society. Everyone is expected to participate in the major ceremonies. The most popular ceremonies are funeral celebrations which typically last several days. The extended family - no matter where they live - will travel home to attend a funeral. The entire village/town and the inhabitants of its environs will ... come to pay their last respects. Thus, the funeral expenses can be a huge burden on the family.

According to LT Hutton, the producer of Ashanti's new single "The Way That I Love You" has announced on MySpace that Ashanti is scheduled to shoot a music video for the song in a couple weeks. Stay tuned for more information!

Shortly after the success of her collaborations, Ashanti released her self-titled debut album on Irv Gotti's Murder Inc. record label in 2002. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart and is Ashanti's most successful album to date, selling over 504,000 copies in its first week - the most successful first week sales for a debut female R&B artist. The album sold well over two million copies a month after it's release.

In 2007, Ashanti appeared in the Sci-Fi horror thriller "Resident Evil: Extinction" as a nurse named Betty. The film entered at #1 at the box office grossing $23,678,580 in its opening week. To date the movie has grossed $50,648,679 at the US box office and around $336,850,814 worldwide. This is Ashanti's second #1 movie, the other being Coach Carter.

Pop Starz has been nationally recognized since 2001, when they won the World Hip Hop Championships in Los Angeles which resulted in recruiting Brice Vick, award-winning choreographer to Ashanti and Remi Ma, as Artistic Director. Pop Starz annual dance workshop, a Florida Hip Hop tradition, attracts hundreds of dancers who come from all over the country to compete in this competition.
