Ashanti is still going with her upcoming album and was out in Los Angeles filming the video for her latest single " The Way That I Love You." The song will actually impact urban radio stations February 18th.

At the same time her single raced up the Hot 100 chart, Ashanti's debut album ... topped both the Billboard and R&B album charts. It sold four million copies in US, 300,000 in UK and 6.5 million worldwide. As a result, the album was certified multi-platinum. Adding to her success, Ashanti took home several awards: two American Music Awards, the Soul Train Aretha Franklin award for Entertainer of the Year and a Teen Choice Award for Breakout Artist of the Year in 2002. In 2003, she won a Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album. Ashanti also received five nominations at the MTV Video Music Awards.

In September 2002, Ashanti and her sister Kenashia appeared on the first DisneyMania CD, which was released under Walt Disney Records. The album featured contemporary Disney classics. Ashanti & her sister sang "Colors of the Wind" from the Disney movie Pocahontas. The album was considered a commercial success, achieving platinum certification in February 2003.

Ashanti eventually released her self-titled debut album in 2001, in which she ... penned all 12 tracks. With its lead single "Foolish," Ashanti began to cement a name for her self. Within a week of its release, the single topped the Hot 100 chart. When it was launched in the UK, it also topped the charts, landing at No. 4. The album also spawned two hit singles, " Happy" and "Baby." "Happy" peaked at No. 8 and "Baby" reached no. 15 on the US charts.

In 2003, Ashanti released her sophomore album, Chapter II which ... debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 with more than 326,000 copies sold in its first week of release. Chapter II was eventually certified Platinum. Ashanti released her third studio album, Concrete Rose, in December, 2004. Although neither the album nor its singles were as successful as her previous work, the album did manage to debut at #7 in the Billboard 200 with more than 254,000 copies sold its first week.

Ashanti cites Mary J. Blige, Ella Fitzgerald, Yolanda Adams, the Clark Sisters and Blue Magic as her musical influences.[4][5] She is currently working on her fourth studio album entitled The Declaration, which is due out the first quarter of 2008. Ashanti appeared in the Sci-Fi horror thriller Resident Evil: Extinction as a nurse named Betty.
