Asha Bhosle (born September 8, 1933) is an Indian singer. She is best known as a Bollywood playback singer, although she has a much wider repertoire. Her career started in 1943 and has spanned over six decades. She has done playback singing for over 950 Bollywood movies[2] and sold many records.[3] She is the sister of the equally accomplished Lata Mangeshkar.

According to the Source, Asha is all set to launch her autobiography, which will profile not only her vivid career but ... about her sister Lata Mangeshkar and the entire Mangeshkar family. Reportedly, the book will reveal facts about the Mangeshkar family that nobody has heard of before. The book will be available in English, Hindi as well as Marathi to cater to wider audiences who may want to read about Asha’s life. Asha started working on the book almost two years back, but refused to complete it in a hurry. Finally, she is working on the last few chapters and aiming to close the book on a good note. She has not yet negotiated her work with a publisher, but she will release the book soon.

Asha was born on September 8, 1933 in a small village of Goar in Sangli, Maharashtra to the Marathi family. She is the daughter of Pandit Dinanath Mangeshkar, who was a theater artist as well as a classical singer. She lost her father, when she only nine years old. The family kept moving from one place to another. They went from Pune to Kolhapur and then to Bombay (now Mumbai). To support the family, she and her elder sister Lata started singing in the films.

In her initial days in the industry, Asha always played second fiddle to her elder sister. Some say that Lata had once said something criticising Asha's relationship with O P Nayyar. This widened the rift between the two sisters and O P Nayyar ... decided that he would never work with Lata. O.P. Nayyar had once revealed — "Asha and Lata staying in opposite flats at Bombay's Peddar Road, shared a common maidservant. Now this maidservant had merely to come and tell the younger sister that Lata had just recorded something wonderful for Asha to lose her vocal poise.
