Asacol is used in the treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). IBD is a general term for any condition that involves chronic inflammation of the small intestine and colon walls. Two main types of IBD exist: ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). Both disorders follow a course of exacerbations (flare-ups) and remissions. UC and CD are troublesome and chronic diseases that can have a significant impact on patients' lives.
