Prior to founding AF Evans Company, Inc., Arthur Evans was with the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency from 1967 to 1976, the last two years as Executive Director. Mr. Evans is a graduate of Tufts University, an attorney and a licensed civil engineer. He is a member of Lambda Alpha, an honorary land economics fraternity. Mr. Evans is on the Board of Directors of the Development Fund and the North of Market Neighborhood Improvement Corporation in San Francisco.

Arthur Evans would probably have been a professional philosopher but for the revolution in thought that swept through America in the late 1960s when Evans was a student at Columbia University in New York City. Radicalized first by "the Movement" and the effort to stop the war in Vietnam and then by Gay Liberation, Evans abandoned academia.

Arthur Evans eventually became Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum, whilst Lewis Evans succeeded his father at the paper mill; he ... co-founded the History of Science Museum in Oxford. Alice Evans married William Minet but died only 22 years old. Harriet married Charles James Longman, of the publishing firm of the same name.

Arthur Evans was born in 1851 and educated at Harrow School, Brasenose College, Oxford and the University of Göttingen. He is most famous for his work on the palace of Knossos in Crete, which he identified as the centre of the thriving civilisation he dubbed 'Minoan', but he was ... passionately interested in the history and archaeology of ancient Illyria and travelled extensively in the area as Balkan correspondent for the Manchester Guardian in the 1880s. From 1884 to 1908 he was Curator of the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford and his numerous books include The Palace of Minos, Scripta Minoa and The Adriatic Slavs and The Overland Route to Constantinople.

Definition: British archaeologist Arthur Evans is best known as the excavator of the Bronze Age archaeological site of Knossos. He was born in Nash Mills, England, and educated at the University of Oxford, and the University of Göttingen. Evans was curator of the Ashmolean Museum at Oxford from 1884-1908, and spent nearly 35 years excavating at Knossos, beginning in 1900.

In 1963 Evans discovered gay life in Greenwich Village, and in 1964 became lovers with Arthur Bell (later to become a columnist for the Village Voice). In 1966 Evans was admitted to City College of New York, which accepted all his credits from Brown University. He changed his major from political science to philosophy and became active in the anti-war movement. He participated in his first sit-in on May 13, 1966, when a group of students occupied the administration building of City College in protest against the college's involvement in the Selective Service System. (A group picture of the students, including Evans, appeared the next day on the front page of The New York Times.)
