For much of Arsenal's history, their home colours have been bright red shirts with white sleeves and white shorts, though this has not always been the case. The choice of red is in recognition of a charitable donation from Nottingham Forest, soon after Arsenal's foundation in 1886. Two of Dial Square's founding members, Fred Beardsley and Morris Bates, were former Forest players who had moved to Woolwich for work. As they put together the first team in the area, no kit could be found, so Beardsley and Bates wrote home for help and received a set of kit and a ball. The shirt was redcurrant, a dark shade of red similar to burgundy, and was worn with white shorts and blue socks.[17]

The Navy believes the arsenal ship will greatly enhance its deep interdiction / strike warfare capability -- the ability to strike targets at long range deep within enemy-held territory. Possible missions of this type would include slowing invasions by either Iraq or North Korea long enough for other U.S. forces to arrive in theater. The Navy is currently in fierce competition with the Air Force for deep interdiction / strike warfare missions, and the Navy is concerned about the limitations of its carrier-based deep interdiction capabilities. The Navy believes the arsenal ship would go a long way toward addressing these concerns.

It was a glorious climax for the Gunners and a wonderful defensive display of determination and class as Manchester United couldn't break down the Arsenal rearguard. Wayne Rooney went close on three occasions before the break and hit the post in the second half, Freddie Ljungberg nodded Ruud van Nistelrooy's header onto the underside of the bar and out, and Roy Keane was one of a posse of United players to squander chances. Arsenal's best chance came in extra time through a Robin Van Persie free kick which Roy Carroll did well to save and then in the dying seconds of the game Jose Antonio Reyes was sent off.

Arsenal station is currently (as of 2007) undergoing a major upgrade which is to be completed later this year. As part of this the wall tiling has been completely replaced, the floor resurfaced and an electronic tannoy system introduced. The historic tiles spelling out "Gillespie Road" have been restored. [5]
