In 1970, Arnold Schwarzenegger was known as the World's Strongest Man. He had long wanted to move from bodybuilding into acting, as many of his idols had done, such as Reg Park. Initially, he had trouble breaking into films due to his long surname, "overly" large muscles, and foreign accent, but he was ... chosen to play the role of Hercules (as both Reg Park and Steve Reeves had done) in Hercules in New York (1970).

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been around for what seems like forever. He initially made it big with numerous bodybuilding titles before making it in Hollywood, where he gained fame not only for the otherworldly physique, but for his sense of humor and charisma. His bodybuilding career was merely a prelude to the enormous success he would achieve as an action movie star. Love him or hate him, at least give him his due for achieving the American Dream.

From All Movie Guide: While his police-chief father wanted him to become a soccer player, Austrian-born actor Arnold Schwarzenegger opted instead for a bodybuilding career. Born July 30, 1947, in the small Austrian town of Graz, Schwarzenegger went on to win several European contests and international titles (including Mr. Olympia) and then came to the U.S. for body-building exhibitions, billing himself immodestly but fairly accurately as "The Austrian Oak." Though his thick Austrian accent and slow speech patterns led some to believe that the Austrian Oak was shy a few leaves, Schwarzenegger was, in fact, a highly motivated and intelligent young man. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in business and economics, he invested his contest earnings in real estate and a mail-order bodybuilding equipment company.

The Governator held court in a VIP box at the Staples Center, while David Beckham and the kids cheered on mom Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham for the second night – though the soccer star clearly didn't want to stand up and show off his dance moves.
