Armenia and Azerbaijan are in long dispute over the Armenian enclave of Nagorno Karabakh. However, international community, Armenians and mediators' helping Azerbaijan to host 2016 Olympic Games could help to resolve the conflict quicker, through peaceful means. Azerbaijan is better off with Olympic Games, the money, attention and tourism that it brings than with Nagorno Karabakh, which is going to be like an investment sink.

Armenia has no foreign trade zones or free ports at present. The company that took over management of the Zvartnots airport in June 2002 discussed with the Armenian Government the possible establishment of a free trade zone on the territory of the airport, but such a zone has yet to be established.

The London newspaper The Economist predicts Armenia's growth rate at 10 percent next year. Also, Washington has named Armenia as one of the early recipients of the Millennium Challenge Corporation grants program, which envisions the investment of $235 million to upgrade roads, water sources and irrigation resources throughout rural Armenia.
