The aim of this training is to present the ARM architecture that is currently employed in a number of 32 bits RISC microprocessors. This training covers the following architectures: ARM7TDMI, ARM9, ARM10 and XSCALE. A microcontroller with an ARM7TDMI core will be used as exemple in the hands-on labs. This training covers aspects of embedded systems development including: programming model, hardware design, assembly and C language programming.

The TrustZone framework can ... be extended for ARM7(TM) and ARM9(TM) family processors through a combination of customized hardware and the TrustZone software. Intel Authenticated Flash memory can also be used in these platforms and is an effective solution for adding hardware integrity protection. ARM TrustZone technology is available for licensing now from ARM and consists of TrustZone technology-enabled ARM processors, TrustZone technology-aware ARM fabric IP and the TrustZone Software.
JAM.4 An ARM Port of the Jikes RVM The Jikes RVM is a state-of-the-art JVM from IBM, that can run on Intel x86 and Power PC 32 and 64bit architectures. The JVM is very novel in that it is written in re-usable Java code, and bootstrap compiles itself. The Jikes RVM's optimising compiler is state-of-the-art, and the project has numerous pluggable garbage collection implementations. An omission in the supported instruction sets of the Jikes RVM is the ARM instruction set. The potential exists to write an ARM port of the Jikes RVM and for this to be possibly the fastest JVM on the ARM architecture. The Jamaica project has a large amount of experience in porting the Jikes RVM to the Jamaica architecture.
As a Tools and Semiconductor Partner, ARM works closely with Symbian to ensure that Symbian OS takes full advantage of the ARM architecture and the many benefits derived from ARM's Intellectual Property (IP). This includes ultra low-power consumption and high performance. Symbian OS runs only on ARM.

DEC licensed the architecture (which caused some confusion because they ... produced the DEC Alpha) and produced the StrongARM. At 233 MHz this CPU drew only 1 watt of power (more recent versions draw far less). This work was later passed to Intel as a part of a lawsuit settlement, and Intel took the opportunity to supplement their aging i960 line with the StrongARM. Intel later developed its own high performance implementation known as XScale which it has since sold to Marvell.
