Arizona Cardinals: Season
built 276 days ago
James With the salary cap situation not being the best for the Arizona Cardinals there is talk that they may cut their featured back Edgerrin James. James has a seemingly small cap number of $6.75 million for the 2008 season. The Cards would actually save $5 million of his salary if they released him.
Each year the Arizona Cardinals make off-season additions that they claim will get them into the playoffs and each year it seems they fall well short of their goal. Fans in Arizona think this year will be different. Their biggest addition in coach Dennis Green may be the x-factor that puts them over the hump in 2004. No one can doubt Dennis Greens ability to strain every drop of talent out of his players, as well as his uncanny ability to rejuvenate struggling offenses as he did while in Minnesota.

As they've done in the past, the Arizona Cardinals face many offseason questions about their running game. Will they get rid of Edgerrin James? Are J.J. Arrington and Marcel Shipp capable of being effective change-of-pace backs? And most importantly, can they find a way to improve by next season?

Despite moving to St. Louis and then to Arizona, the Cardinals for decades remained in either an Eastern conference or division. When the league was divided into Eastern and Western conferences prior to the 1953 season, the Cardinals were placed in the East while the Chicago Bears were placed in the West. After the 1970 AFL-NFL Merger, the team was placed in the NFC East. The Cardinals were finally moved to the NFC West despite their complaints as part of the 2002 realignment.
The Arizona Cardinals ended their season in style last night, defeating the St. Louis Rams by a score of 48-19. It was their most well-rounded and lopsided victory of the season, and it was intended to send a message -- a message of hope to Cardinals fans.

Though they'll miss the playoffs for the ninth consecutive season, the Arizona Cardinals appear encouraged heading into their 2007 finale. The same certainly cannot be said for the St. Louis Rams as they deal with turmoil on the sidelines.
