Argentina: Countries
built 256 days ago
Topographic map of Argentina (including some territorial claims). Argentina was the only country from Latin America to participate in the 1991 Gulf War under mandate of the United Nations. It was ... the only Latin American country involved in every phase of the Haiti operation. Argentina has contributed worldwide to peacekeeping operations, including in El Salvador-Honduras-Nicaragua, Guatemala, Ecuador-Peru, Western Sahara, Angola, Kuwait, Cyprus, Croatia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Timor Leste. In recognition of its contributions to international security, U.S. President Bill Clinton designated Argentina as a major non-NATO ally in January 1998. In 2005, it was elected as a temporary member of the UN Security Council.
Image:Argentinamap.JPG Argentina's easternmost and most representative province is Uruguay, which has the best beaches in the region. Toilets flush clockwise in Argentina, except at the South Pole (Argentina, claimed by the UK), where toilets become bidets. Tom Cruise has donated all the toilet water as an energy source for the church of Scientology. The government has overlooked the fact to help improve the Argentina-Tom Cruise relationship. The country is divided into 23 provinces, each with its own currency and form of government ranging from Vandal Feudalism to Peronism. (Obs: There's a permanent brazilian pirate invasion & merge threat.
From 1880 to 1916, Argentina enjoyed increasing prosperity, prominence and became one of the top 10 richest countries in the world, through an agricultural export-led economy. The population of the country swelled sevenfold. Conservative forces dominated Argentine politics through non-democratic means until 1916, when their traditional rivals, the Radicals, won control of the first free-elected government. The military forced Hipólito Yrigoyen from power in 1930, leading to another decade of Conservative rule. Political change led to the presidency of Juan Perón in 1946, who tried to empower the working class and greatly expanded the number of unionized workers. The economy turned to more protectionist policies and the developing of industry.
Argentina’s government has long encouraged European immigration, and for decades the country’s stable government, good communications, and economic opportunities attracted new residents. From 1850 to 1940, more than 6 million Europeans settled in the country. Spanish and Italian immigrants predominated, with significant numbers of French, British, German, Russian, Polish, and Syrian immigrants. Since the 1950s more than 50,000 Asians, primarily South Korean, have migrated to Argentina. However, since the 2002 economic collapse, many thousands of Argentines have left the country, migrating back to Italy, Spain, Germany, and other countries outside the region.

Argentina has been named the best golfing destination in Latin America and the Caribbean for 2008 by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO). More than 280 golf courses designed by renowned course architects like Allister Mackenzie, Von Hagge, Nicklaus, Luther Koontz, Dentone, Caprile and Emilio Serrain can be found throughout the country and in a variety of styles, from American to Scottish to English. Some courses are surrounded by mountains, while others are situated near the sea or jungle or in the heart of the largest cities.
Img0063.jpg (21767 bytes) Argentina's culture has been greatly affected by its immigrant population, mostly European. Their influence contributed to the demise of pre-Columbian cultures, resulting in the lack of a dominant indigenous population. The European immigrant groups each adopted different roles. The Basque and Irish controlled sheep rearing, the Germans and Italians established farms, and the British invested in developing the country's infra- structure.
