The earliest known events in Arabian history are migrations from the peninsula into neighbouring areas [2]. Around 3500 BC, Semitic-speaking peoples of Arabian origin migrated into the valley of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in Mesopotamia, supplanted the Sumerians, and became the Assyro-Babylonians (see Babylonia and Assyria). Some archeologists argue that another group of Semites left Arabia around 2500 BC during the Early Bronze Age and settled along the Levant, mixing in with the local populations there. Some of these migrants became the Amorites and Canaanites of later times. Some archeologists argue that the migration instead came from the northern Levant. Other archeologists argue that there was no migration, and that the outside influences found in the indigenous Levantine population resulted from trade.

Youth from the Arabian Peninsula can be divided into two distinct categories. Youth from wealthy homes in the cities mostly hang around together in groups. Stylish cars, making secret boy-to-girl friendships, playing sports, watching movies and chatting over the Internet are part of their lives. Youth from poorer backgrounds are much more reserved, passionate about neighborhood soccer games, are quite friendly and less mobile. Families and the local governments have been encouraging young people to get college degrees by offering free schooling, pocket money and a promise of good jobs after graduation.

While the once-frequent jabs at Nephi's tale of finding Bountiful in the Arabian Peninsula have lost their punch with the discovery of a remarkable and hard-to-ignore candidate for Bountiful in Oman, other aspects of Nephi's story continue to draw anti-Mormon fire. One of the most prominent targets is the Valley of Lemuel and the River of Laman. Anti-Mormons recently have been proclaiming that no such river exists--a "slam-dunk" argument against the entire Book of Mormon. The attack is based on the following verses from 1 Nephi chapter 2:

Technology is opening up the Arabian Peninsula like never before. Young people are surfing the Web. Of course many are going to sites that are sinful, but they are ... able go to Arabic sites designed to communicate the truth about Jesus to Muslims. What new technologies are yet to be developed or already exist that will allow Arabs to hear the truth and grow in the knowledge of the Lord?

Any man from the Arabian Peninsula, or whose origins are from there, can learn more about his ancesteries and their relations to the old tribes. Possibly to even determine if he is of Adnanite or Qahtanite lineage, and to which branch within these two groups he belongs.
