Arabian Peninsula: Countries
built 629 days ago
Life for women in most of the Arabian Peninsula (AP) has changed over the past fifty years. In some of the countries women have been allowed to pursue higher education and to enter the work force. Most Arab women are covered in black; this dress has given them greater freedom to enjoy a public life and still retain an unblemished reputation.

In addition, 22 trainees from the seven countries of the Arabian Peninsula participated in short-term courses organized by ICARDA in their regular training program at headquarters. These included training courses in the integrated management of insect pests, seed production, processing and storage, experimental station operation management, library management and information technology, on-farm water use efficiency, use of GIS and remote sensing, DNA molecular marker techniques, biodiversity conservation, and plant genetic resources documentation and information management.

The other most important thing aspect of textiles and costumes in the Arabian peninsula was that of indigo dying. Indigo was grown, and dyeing practised in a number of areas in the Yemen and Oman. It is only in the past 30-40 years that the use of indigo for clothing, textiles, facemasks etc. has more or less disappeared. According to Jenny Balfour-Paul in her excellent and interesting study Indigo in the Arab World (Curzon Press, Richmond, UK), indigo has been in continuous use for more than four millennia. Indigo dyed clothes and textiles have a marvellous sheen and iridescence which probably why it was so popular in so many countries from antiquity up until almost the present time.

More than 5 million foreign residents (expatriates) have moved to the Arabian Peninsula to work in the expanding economies of these countries. The largest of these communities are Indians, Filipinos, Pakistanis, Arabs, Afghanis, Iranians and smaller numbers of Africans and Westerners. Among this mix of nationalities, God has divinely placed many Christian believers. Approximately 6% of them are born again believers. Many churches have started in the last decade to accommodate these believers as the local governments, officially or unofficially, allow these churches to meet. Never before have so many Christians lived alongside the local Arab peoples.

RAK will focus on routes within the Arabian peninsula, and to the Indian sub-continent, but it has a long list - certainly to operate with just two aircraft. This includes Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Russia, Sri Lanka, and other CIS countries (Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine).
