The major advantage these used Apple computers give is that they often include the monitor (for under $200). You can get new PC systems for under $400 through Dell™ Home and, of course, there are PCs available for this price without a monitor, but that’s only if the Mac OS doesn’t matter to you. Is there a certain satisfaction in being part of the Cult of Mac? Maybe so…

It is said that Jobs was immediately convinced that all future computers would use a GUI, and decided to turn over design of Apple's next project, the Apple Lisa, to produce such a device. The Lisa was named after Jobs' daughter (... a bacronym,[22] Local Integrated Software Architecture, was coined). He was eventually pushed from the group due to infighting, and instead took over Jef Raskin's low-cost computer project, the Macintosh. Branding the new effort as the product that would "save Apple", an intense turf war broke out between the Lisa's "corporate shirts" and Jobs' Macintosh "pirates", both teams claiming they would ship first and be more successful. In 1983 the Lisa team won the race and Apple introduced the first personal computer to be sold to the public with a GUI. However, the Lisa was a commercial failure as a result of its high price tag (US$9,995) and limited software titles.[22]

The final release of the WordPerfect wordprocessor for the Apple Macintosh computers is version 3.5e, which has an August1997 filedate. Corel, the owner of WordPerfect, discontinued support for all versions of WordPerfect for the Macintosh on 29Oct1999. WordPerfect for the Macintosh is no longer available at the Corel website, but the last version is now a free download from several websites. There are three files that you will need to run WordPerfect3.5e on a modern Apple computer (either MacOS9 or Classic Mode in OSX):

In 1994 Apple allied with long-time competitor IBM and CPU maker Motorola in the so-called AIM alliance. This was a bid to create a new computing platform (the PowerPC Reference Platform or PReP), which would use IBM and Motorola hardware coupled with Apple's software. The AIM alliance hoped that PReP's performance and Apple's software would leave the PC far behind... countering Microsoft, which had become Apple's chief competitor. That year, Apple introduced the Power Macintosh using IBM's PowerPC processor. This processor utilized a RISC architecture, which differed substantially from the Motorola 68k series that had been used by all previous Macs.

As always, early adopters will find issues that Apple needs to fix - especially with new hardware. The 2008 Mac Pros were an unexpected release, as they came before the Macworld keynote. The new Mac Pros didn’t have a new casing - in fact, they look exactly the same as 2007 Mac Pros from the outside. The difference is on the inside: All the models are 8-core, and new upgrades were introduced. Everyone was pleased to see higher-end video cards like the NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT. This was a necessary move by Apple, and is the only way they are going to be able to push gaming on their platform.

All Apple computers sold today include one or more FireWire ports. Mac OS X versions 10.3 and later support the Internet Protocol (IP) on FireWire. Operating at up to 400 or 800 megabits per second, IP over FireWire provides many useful capabilities for developers and customers.
