Apple Computers' iPod and iTunes Music Store download service have helped increase the visibility and ease of obtaining digital music legally. In the first six months of the year, global consumers spent $790 million downloading tunes, compared to $220 million for the same time period from the year prior.

Apple's iTunes will be the first online music store to receive EMI's DRM-free premium downloads. iTunes will sell the albums and tracks as 256kbps AAC downloads, in audio quality virtually indistinguishable from the original recording.
The University has a contract with Apple direct for the purchase of Apple Products. The contract is managed by OIT. Departments may place orders to Apple direct, or through the University Store - Follett Higher Education Group. The pricing is the same, either way. The department must reference "Campus Contract Number 12806" in the Line Details panel of the Purchase Order.
