Apocrypha: Books
built 792 days ago
The Apocrypha does not claim to be the word of God or of the prophets and makes a lot of contradictory statements. It does not hold up to the historical, archeological analysis as the other books of the Bible. Catholics accuse the Protestants as leaving something out not having the full revelation. Actually It is only that the Catholic Church included it, and rather late in the game at that.

According to traditional usage "Apocrypha" has been the designation applied to the fifteen books, or portions of books, listed below. (in many earlier editions of the Apocrypha, the Letter of Jeremiah is incorporated as the final chapter of the Book of Baruch; hence in these editions there are fourteen books.)

The Apocrypha / Deuterocanonical books teach many things that are not true and are not historically accurate. While many Catholics accepted the Apocrypha / Deuterocanonicals previously, the Roman Catholic Church officially added the Apocrypha / Deuterocanonicals to their Bible at the Council of Trent in the mid 1500’s A.D., primarily in response to the Protestant Reformation. The Apocrypha / Deuterocanonicals support some of the things that the Roman Catholic Church believes and practices which are not in agreement with the Bible. Examples are praying for the dead, petitioning “saints” in Heaven for their prayers, worshipping angels, and “alms giving” atoning for sins. Some of what the Apocrypha / Deuterocanonicals say is true and correct. However, due to the historical and theological errors, the books must be viewed as fallible historical and religious documents, not as the inspired, authoritative Word of God.

Book Two of the Skyguard Aegis trilogy, The Apocrypha, begins just seven months after the end of Book One, The Aegis. Mary, a teenage girl who has been adopted by David and Laura Powell, is now an integral part of the family. Originally diagnosed as having complete amnesia, all attempts to find Mary's parents or determine her past have failed, leading David and Laura to surmise that Mary has been manufactured by the "creators"--the mysterious beings who built the Aegis.

The Apocrypha generally consists of 14 booklets of which 1 and 2 Maccabees and 1 Esdras are the main documents and form the bulk of the apocryphal writings. First Maccabees is an historical account of the struggle of the Maccabee family and their followers for Jewish independence from 167 to 134 BC. Second Maccabees covers the same ground but dramatizes the accounts and makes moral and doctrinal observations. Other books are Tobit, Judith, Baruch, Ecclesiasticus, and The Wisdom of Solomon.
