Anouk may be a newcomer to Paddington but it is certainly familiar with the restaurant scene. Trained as a travel agent in Austin, TX, Anouk has recent experience travelling through Southern Africa, Latin America, and Asia. In 1998 she moved to New York to train travel agents for Council Travel, a large student/budget travel agency. In 1999 she joined the About.com team as Travel editor until 2001 when she left to raise her sons. She still has family and friends dotted all over Africa and is always busy planning the next trip out there.

Anouk has conducted research on mangroves since 1996. During her M.Sc. thesis she studied the applicability of aerial photographs in studying mangrove vegetation dynamics, conducting field research in Sri Lanka. Later on she participated in the EU-financed 'GROFLO' project (Antropogenically induced changes in groundwater outflow and quality, and the functioning of Eastern African nearshore ecosystems), during which she conducted field research in Kenya. During this project she constructed groundwater flow maps for the Kenyan coast using the MODFLOW model and the 'Visual Modflow' interface.

After a few years of playing nights and working various jobs during the day, Anouk quit the group and called upon a friend, Barry Hay of Golden Earring, for musical inspiration. Hay had joined Anouk on stage during a festival earlier in the year. Hay and a fellow band member wrote "Mood Indigo" for Anouk, and soon the track made its way to radio and then to a record deal. Anouk formed her own band and soon "Nobody's Wife" became a hit in Holland. Anouk, the band, consists of Anouk (on vocals), Satindra Kalpoe (on drums), Carlos Lake (on bass), Paul-Jan Bakker (on guitar), Sven Figee (on keyboards), and Roland Dirkse (on guitar). and, Anouk's band supports her perfectly." Anouk went on to tour with Golden Earring the same year.

After the release of her last album "Hotel New York" in 2005, Anouk took some time off from the hustle and bustle of the music biz to take care of her three young kids. Earlier this year, she felt the time was right to start recording new music again. She traveled to Los Angeles to work with master producter Glenn Ballard (Alanis Morissette, Annie Lennox) who produced this entire new record. The songwriting was in the very capable hands of Anouk herself together with long-time writing partner Bart van Veen and her husband Remon Stotijn.
